Meet Giovani: From Darkness to Light

As a teenager, Giovani Blanco rebelled against his grandmother and mother. He began committing street crimes that led to his arrest and incarceration.

In the detention center, Giovani encountered the workers from Counteract International who shared their faith with him. Through the Success Academy classes, he learned more about God and put his faith in Christ.

Unfortunately, while he was in the center, Giovani suffered retinal detachments. Even though he is now legally blind, he has not let the loss of his eyesight stop him from pursuing his goals. With Counteract International’s support, he learned Braille, regained independence using a cane, and completed his high school education.

“Meeting Jesus changed my life,” Giovani shared. “It was hard to adjust to losing my sight, but my faith has kept me going.”

Giovani, 24, is a respected leader in his church where he preaches regularly. He also mentors other released youth on their spiritual journeys through online Bible studies.
