Scholarship Fund

Despite their potential and aspirations, many young people coming out of the juvenile correctional facilities in Central America find that one of their greatest hurdles is the financial barrier that prevents them from going back to school.

The cost of getting an education – coupled with the necessity to support themselves and their families through employment – leaves academic pursuits a distant dream.

At the same time, education is key for youth to break cycles of violence, poverty and recidivism, in which they find themselves trapped.

Counteract’s scholarship program is designed to assist young men and women with getting education so they may continue on their path to success. The assistance provides funds for tuition, fees, supplies, and/or books for youth to complete their high school degree or pursue studies at a trade school or university. Our goal is to prepare young people for a job that:

  • aligns with their skills and interests
  • generates a salary that exceeds the minimum wage
  • contributes positively and strengthens communities
  • supports a family in an honest way
  • eliminates recidivism and migration to other countries

The scholarship program provides an opportunity to invest in tangible, positive change in the lives of those most in need of hope and support. By investing in their potential, the program empowers young people to achieve academic and professional goals, and in turn, contribute to their communities and the broader development of the Central American region.
