Adolfo Finds Purpose Following Loss
When Adolfo lost both of his parents as a teenager, his world fell apart.
Overwhelmed by grief and surrounded by negative influences, he made choices that ultimately led him to a juvenile detention center in Guatemala. It was there — at his lowest point — that Adolfo’s story began to shift.
Inside the detention center, he joined Counteract’s Success Academy, where he was introduced to God’s love, biblical values, and practical life skills that helped him begin to rebuild his life. “I began to see that my life still had value,” Adolfo shared. “I didn’t have to stay defined by my past.”
After his release, Adolfo entered Counteract’s aftercare program, where he received ongoing mentoring and support. Today, he’s working at a fast-food restaurant and living with a close family friend. He’s also preparing to begin university studies in auditing, thanks to a scholarship program. On Isabel’s recent visit to Adolfo in his town more than 100 miles from Guatemala City, Adolfo reflected on his journey:
“I’m grateful to God and to everyone who believed in me. It hasn’t been easy, but I feel stronger now. I’m starting to dream again. I want to be someone who inspires others like me.”
