Daniel’s Journey from Streets to Success

Daniel faced harsh realities of poverty and abandonment from an early age. Childhood neglect left him to fend for himself and his siblings. He resorted to scavenging along polluted riverbanks to find anything sellable to buy food. The struggle for survival eventually led Daniel down a path of drugs, alcohol, and conflict with the law. During incarceration, his life took a pivotal turn at 16 when he encountered the Counteract (formerly Orphan Helpers) team of local Christians working with youth behind bars.

โ€œWhen I met these teachers, I finally found people I could trust,โ€ Daniel recalls.

The emotional support and spiritual guidance from Counteract inspired Daniel to envision a better future. After he was released in 2022, Counteract International provided Daniel with a scholarship to participate in a job-training program in the plastics industry. This opportunity led to a good-paying job as a plastic inspection technician.

โ€œI never thought I would be doing this! I am so grateful that Orphan Helpers believed in me,โ€ he says as he reflects on his journey. โ€œThey have been with me in the center, at my wedding, and when my baby was born. It has been a blessing to me to have them in my life.โ€
