From Darkness to Hope: Jorge’s Story of Transformation
Jorge Guillermo Deras Castillo, 22, grew up in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in a home held together by his hardworking mother. Despite the love and unity in his family, Jorge struggled in school and, by fourth grade, made the choice to drop out. He found himself surrounded by negative influences, leading him down a dangerous path—one that ultimately cost him his freedom.
At home one day, Jorge was arrested. The pain in his mother’s eyes was unforgettable. Sentenced to four years in the Honduras detention center, he was filled with regret. But inside those prison walls, something unexpected happened. A fellow inmate told him about a group of Christians who gathered to study the Bible. Searching for hope, Jorge decided to join them.

That decision changed everything. Through those devotionals, Jorge encountered God’s love and mercy. His heart began to transform, and he committed to a new path—one of faith, responsibility, and growth.
Now free, Jorge is dedicated to building a better life for himself and his young daughter. He is deeply grateful to God and to Counteract International for their support through his journey.

“To everyone supporting young people in difficult situations, I urge you to continue your work. Your help is invaluable and can truly change lives,” Jorge shares. His story is proof that transformation is possible when someone is willing to believe in you.
